The Need.

Protecting our right to vote

The right to vote has never protected itself. For generations, Black lawyers have stood alongside communities fighting to secure, defend, and exercise that right. With everything going on in this political environment, the call for protection our elections is especially urgent. Today, the National Bar Association is preparing to answer that call again—together, strategically, and at scale. Under President James J. Carter, Jr., the NBA is launching a national Election Protection Initiative organized around three pillars: EDUCATE. CONVENE. MOBILIZE.

The Ask.

We are asking every NBA affiliate, region, section, and division to:

• Designate Election Protection Leads;
• Contribute meaningfully before Election Day through community-facing programming, collaboration, member mobilization, relevant subject-matter expertise, support of another NBA entity’s efforts, or integration of Election Protection into existing activities;
• Mobilize their networks by sharing opportunities, calls to action, training, and Initiative communications and helping us capture engagement and impact data; and
• Show Up on Election Day through the NBA National Day of Action.
