Election protection helps ensure that eligible voters can exercise their right to vote and that problems affecting access to the ballot are identified and addressed. Lawyers have long played an important role in that work. Start here to understand why Election Protection matters, how it works, what voters should know, and how lawyers and communities can help protect the vote.

The Right to Vote Has Never Protected Itself.

The right to vote has been secured and defended through generations of advocacy, organizing, litigation, legislation, and civic action. Black lawyers and civil rights organizations have played a critical role in that history—challenging barriers to the ballot and helping communities exercise their rights.

That work continues. Changes in election laws, misinformation, voter intimidation, administrative barriers, and unequal access can still make voting more difficult. Election Protection helps ensure that voters have trusted information, understand their rights, and know where to turn when problems arise.
